Open Positions

Jobs at SEG

We are pleased to announce three open PhD positions in the field of software engineering. We are looking for highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our research group and to advance software engineering knowledge and methods.

While you are kindly invited to contribute to all our ongoing research activities, the PhD candidates shall be particularly involved in one of the research projects funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), each of them providing plenty of room for shaping research contributions in terms of a PhD:

  • Merge++ | Turning software merge conflicts into conflict-induced variability: A 4-year research project which we are about to bootstrap, located at the intersection of software version control and software product-lines, and exploring a fundamentally new way of how to deal with merge conflicts.
  • RUNVERSPACE | Runtime Verification for Space Software Architectures: A research project which, following the spirit of Spark, aims at the rapid exploration of applying rigorous software engineering methods to space software engineering, opening the door for an avenue of research on how to engineer the next generation of space applications.

Your opportunities:

  • Conduct pioneering research in software engineering.
  • Collaborate with renowned experts in the field.
  • Develop your individual solutions for relevant software engineering challenges.
  • Publish your findings in top-tier academic journals and conferences.
  • Mentor and inspire the next generation of software engineers.

What we can offer:

  • A young and vital research group.
  • Traveling support for outreach and dissemination activities to international conferences.
  • Access to state-of-the-art laboratories and resources.
  • Competitive salary according to the regulations of the SNSF.

What we expect:

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science or related fields.
  • Good programming skills and a solid understanding of software development methodologies.
  • Creativity and joy in solving problems.
  • A strong desire for learning and a keen interest in fostering innovation.
  • A passion for contributing a lasting impact on the future of software engineering.

Interested? Any open questions? Please do not hesitate to contact us!

We are looking forward to your application (consisting of at least a CV and short letter of motivation), which you may directly send to Prof. Timo Kehrer.
